Club Meeting - January 23, 2012

There was a lot going on at today's meeting. We began with a few technical difficulties, but everything worked out in the end. Two of our new members - Damon Crossland and Sawyer Sykes were awarded their Blue Badge after completing their GEAR training on Saturday. Damon served as today's official GREETER and Sawyer presented a brief history of Rotary International from the years 1908-1911. Thanks for a job well done guys. We also had a fabulous speaker - Sean McGlynn - Director of Museums & Cultural Affairs for the city of El Paso.

GEAR Training Meeting - January 21, 2012

 We had a very productive training session this morning at the office of United Blood Services, hosted by President David Veloz, for new members Sawyer Sykes and Damon Crossland. The GEAR (Get Excited About Rotary) meeting began at 9:00am with David  who gave a brief overview of the RI website and a feature on it "Rotary Timeline," Gerri Wootten then presented information on the Rotary Foundation and Paul Harris membership information, followed by Sandy Boswell on Club Services; Chava Gonzalez on International Services/Matching Grants; then Russell Autry on Literacy; Francis Reyes about the duties of Secretary and she spoke about New Generations

on behalf of Director Gail Gale. Carey Beamesderfer then spoke about the club in general. The training session closed with Lorraine Huit's presentation on Youth Exchange.

Club Meeting - January 16, 2012

"Lose-A-Ton" weigh-in.

Today we began our club's participation in the District Governor's "Lose-A-Ton" Weight Loss Challenge. A total of 11 people signed up and pledged to lose 100 lbs. Kristi Albers is coordinating and leading the effort to make this a reality for all of us. Good luck to all. We can do it!

 We also had two incredible speakers from the Men's Health Clinic of the University Medical Center. UMC is committed to providing health preventing screenings for men. Their staff has demonstrated a strong belief in the importance of male involvement which has influenced the clinic success through feedback from client focus groups and patient satisfaction surveys.
